Most of the questions we get about Hyatt come from people who already hold Globalist status, or are close to it, and want to know whether booking through Hyatt Privé costs them anything. It does not. The two programmes were built for different jobs, they attach to the same booking, and once you see what each one actually delivers the decision takes about a minute.
The Short Answer
Book Hyatt Privé whenever the hotel takes part, whether or not you hold Globalist status. A Privé booking earns World of Hyatt points and elite nights, keeps every Globalist benefit, and adds what status cannot: a one-category upgrade confirmed within 24 hours of booking, breakfast in the restaurant rather than the lounge, a US$50 to US$100 property credit and a welcome gift. Globalist still wins on its own ground, with suite upgrades, guaranteed 4pm check-out and waived resort fees, and all of that applies on top.
What Globalist gives you, and what it costs
Globalist is the top tier of World of Hyatt and it takes 60 elite nights in a calendar year, with award stays counting. In return the member receives a full breakfast at every hotel for up to two adults and two children per room, served in the club lounge where one exists and in the restaurant where one does not; unlimited suite upgrades subject to availability; a 4pm check-out that is guaranteed at hotels and subject to availability at resorts; resort fees waived on every stay; and free parking on award stays. Milestone Rewards, earned in 10-night steps, include suite upgrade awards, each of which confirms a suite at the time of booking for up to seven nights. Guest of Honor lets a Globalist pass those privileges to someone else's booking.
It is the best hotel status in the industry, and it is earned, which is the point. A guest who stays twelve nights a year at Hyatt will not hold it, and a guest who holds it still depends on what the hotel has free on the day for the one benefit people value most, the upgrade.
What Privé gives you, on one stay
Hyatt Privé is Hyatt's programme for travel advisors, and it attaches to a single booking regardless of your tier. At Park Hyatt, which is where the programme is strongest, a Privé booking carries a US$100 property credit per room per stay, a one-category upgrade confirmed within 24 hours of booking, daily full breakfast for two in the restaurant, early check-in from 9am and late check-out to 4pm subject to availability, and a welcome gift and letter. Every Park Hyatt, Andaz and Miraval takes part, with no minimum stay at Park Hyatt and Andaz. Selected Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Centric, Thompson, Alila, Unbound Collection and Joie de Vivre hotels take part too, with a US$50 or US$100 credit depending on the hotel, early check-in but no late check-out, and a two-night minimum at most of them.
The rate is Hyatt's standard flexible rate, the one shown on hyatt.com before any member discount. Privé cannot be attached to a member rate, an advance purchase rate, a corporate or AAA rate, a third-party rate or an award stay, and it cannot be booked without an advisor. Hyatt does not publish the participating list and it changes, so we confirm the hotel and its credit amount before we book.
How the two stack
A Privé rate is a qualifying rate. It earns World of Hyatt points and elite night credit, counts towards Globalist, and carries your elite benefits exactly as a direct booking would. Globalist suite upgrade awards and Explorist club access awards can be applied to a Privé booking, so a confirmed suite from the award and the Privé credit and welcome gift sit on the same stay. Our clients give us their World of Hyatt number at the time of booking and keep both sets of benefits; that has been our experience on every Privé booking we have placed.
Two things do not stack. Breakfast is one: a Globalist on a Privé rate receives the Privé restaurant breakfast, not a second one from status. Points are the other: you cannot use points to upgrade a Privé booking, and a stay paid with points receives no Privé benefits at all.
When Privé wins
Below Globalist, Privé is the whole package. A Discoverist or Explorist has no breakfast, no late check-out and no suite upgrades to fall back on, and Privé supplies breakfast for two, a credit and a confirmed upgrade on a single stay. For a four-night stay at a Park Hyatt, that is eight restaurant breakfasts, US$100 on the folio and a better room, at the same rate.
For a Globalist, Privé wins on the day the upgrade matters. The Globalist suite upgrade is subject to availability at check-in, and anyone who holds the status knows the weeks when nothing is free. The Privé upgrade is one category and is confirmed within 24 hours of booking, which turns a hope into a line on the confirmation. Privé also wins on breakfast at hotels with a club lounge, since the restaurant breakfast replaces a lounge buffet, and it adds the credit and the welcome gift, neither of which status provides.
When Globalist wins
Globalist wins where Privé does not reach. Hyatt Place and Hyatt House are outside the programme, only selected Hyatt Regency hotels are in it, and status still works at all of them. It wins on suites, because the Privé upgrade is one category, room to room or suite to suite, while a Globalist suite upgrade or a suite upgrade award moves you into the suite itself. It wins on resort fees, which Privé does not touch, and on award stays, where Privé does not apply. And it wins when you want a rate Privé cannot be attached to. A member rate or an advance purchase rate is sometimes lower than the flexible rate; on a short stay the Privé credit and the confirmed upgrade are usually worth more than that difference, on a long prepaid stay they may not be, and we run that comparison for the specific hotel and dates rather than assume.
Our position
If the hotel takes part in Privé, book Privé and give us your World of Hyatt number. Nothing about your status is given up, the stay still counts towards keeping it, and the booking gains a confirmed upgrade, a credit and a restaurant breakfast that status alone does not deliver. Reserve the Globalist suite upgrade award for the stay where the suite is the point. The only cases where we would book a Hyatt without Privé are a hotel outside the programme, a stay on points, or a prepaid rate on a long stay where the discount is larger than the perks, and we will tell you which of those applies.
